Classical Doppler Shift (Light)Edit

The equation for classical doppler shift is outlined below

$ \frac {\lambda _{obs} - \lambda _{rest}}{\lambda _{rest}} = \frac {v _r}{c} $

  • $ \lambda _{obs} $ is the observed wavelength
  • $ \lambda _{rest} $ is the original emitted wavelength
  • $ v _r $ is the relative velocity from the source to the observer
  • $ c $ is the speed of light

It is a simple switch from wavelength to frequency using $ \lambda\nu = c $

$ \frac {\nu _{rest} - \nu _{obs}}{\nu _{obs}} = \frac {v _r}{c} $
