The equation for classical doppler shift is outlined below

\frac {\lambda _{obs} - \lambda _{rest}}{\lambda _{rest}} = \frac {v _r}{c}

  • \lambda _{obs} is the observed wavelength
  • \lambda _{rest} is the original emitted wavelength
  • v _r is the relative velocity from the source to the observer
  • c is the speed of light

It is a simple switch from wavelength to frequency using \lambda\nu = c
